US Healthcare Applications spending is growing at a strong rate. Over the next 5 years spending is expected to increase at a compound average growth rate (CAGR) of 7.2%, increasing from $18.2 billion in 2012 to $23.7 billion by 2016. This growth will in part be driven by increased adoption of mobile healthcare solutions, as well as the support of remote healthcare solutions for the aging population. The need for remote monitoring, diagnostics and remote healthcare facilities that allow diagnosis and treatment at home have necessitated an increase in spending on social initiatives. Compass Intelligence believes that these applications will be in high demand over the coming years. Government legislations and incentives mean that electronic record keeping and inter-organizational communications will become important within every US healthcare setup.
US Healthcare Applications Expenditures, 2011-2016
Today’s growing healthcare landscape is filled with initiatives that directly impact software and applications used in the healthcare industry. Key applications taking a front seat today include EMR (electronic medical records) software, CPOE (Computerized Physician Order Entry), Imaging, Online/Web scheduling, and mHealth applications. This market is primed for growth, driven mainly by compliance mandates for EMR and the growth of wireless health and medical applications. Compass Intelligence expects many traditional applications used within hospitals or in a medical practice will become wirelessly enabled so they can be accessed on multiple form factors including smartphones and tablets.
