Public Sector Priorities Regarding Internet Services

by Stephanie Atkinson 30. April 2012 13:38

In February, Compass Intelligence launched one of our 'Hot Topic' surveys around a number of topics including M2M, Cloud, and Mobility.  There were definitely some interesting findings, and I have pulled out just the responses from Business Decision-makers that work for Education, Government, and Healthcare.  Of the 644 respondants that completed the survey, about 158 were from public sector industries, and about 47 of them were decision-makers.

When we asked them about their top 5 priorities around Internet services, more than half (54%) stated that Hosted/Cloud/Managed services were a top priority, specifically to add processes/capabilities or increase efficiencies in their business or organization.  Others that made the list include increasing data security, and adopting mobile applications.  It is not surprising that there is a strong interest in Cloud services.  Many in the public sector (Government, Education, Healthcare) continue to look to technology to support cost containment, increase efficiencies, and improve productivty.  Continued budget cuts and economic uncertainty, have also pushed decision-makers to look to less capital investment and more to 'bite-sized' investments that can support their organization's growth.

Cloud services present many opportunities for the public sector.  The healthcare industry is looking to the cloud for data storage, backup, recovery, and patient records management.  The education sector is looking to the cloud for many different educational and learning applications/software, as well as basic server hosting and backup.  The government industry is a prime candidate for private cloud services to house shared resources, applications, and information, while giving them the level of security required.  Cloud-based solutions are currently being seen as not only a more affordable option, but also provides less management from IT teams, as well as the added flexibility in that users and workers can access the solution or service from anywhere.  Right now, it is all about mobility, accessibility, affordability, and ease of use!

Q14.  With regard to your company’s expectations for the future, what are the top 5 priorities for 2012 for your company’s Internet Service requirements? (Select up to 5)
