Across size of business, "Increasing Data Security" is the top concern for these IT/Telecom Decision-makers when looking toward 2012. Similar results were found in previous year's research, with the percentage of decision-makers selecting this response increasing each period. Data security is closely linked to the second most-commonly cited response, "Improve my company's ecommerce/website capabilities." As firms establish and build out their digital footprints, their need to protect key data (not only through technology, but also through policy management and governance) will continue to rise.
Top IT/Telecom Priorities for 2012

Today’s businesses, no matter what the size, are continuing to be very cautious with their IT plans and budgeting. While some spending is starting to creep upward, the uncertainty in the economy, as well as budget shortfalls and challenged capital markets have really tightened the overall wallets of business decision-makers. Many have shifted expenditure priorities away from large infrastructure or longer-term project to focus more on faster investment returns and spending that hits their monthly recurring budgets.
SMBs continue to explore cloud-based solutions and technology to improve their highly mobile behavior, as well as adopt wireless devices and applications to improve access to work information. In addition smaller businesses continue to explore technology to enhance their branding, online presence, and to heighten their efforts to appear larger and more professional in nature. Large enterprises are experiencing differing priorities in that they continue to explore solutions to improve productivity of their workforce and operations, integrate business processes or streamline work activities, and invest in technology that shows a quicker return on investment. Some of the more prevalent areas of investment revolve around cloud solutions, big data services & analytics, mobility devices and services, and applications in general.
